On 10 October 1999, me and at least 74 (crazy) determined individuals will leave Portsmouth England on the start of a Round-The-World Yacht Race.

The race starts in Portsmouth, and travels south to the Canaries in preparation for the Atlantic crossing. This for many, including myself, will be one of the highlights of the trip; will be where most experience their first taste of Ocean racing and; will mark the beginning of several large sea crossings. With Christmas and the New Year spent on Tobago in the Caribbean the race continues through the Panama Canal and off into the Pacific Oceans. This large Ocean voyage will be broken by visits to the Galapagos, Marquesas Islands, The Pacific Islands of Tahiti, Tonga and Fiji, New Zealand then Australia. Taking a northerly route the race will continue through to Christmas Island, on to The Maldives then Mauritius, before arriving in South Africa. From here we will cross the Southern Ocean, destination Recife in Brazil, this being the longest ocean passage with some 3,300 nautical miles ahead of us. There we will commence the last part of the journey traveling once again across the Atlantic to the Azores then back for the Finale of the race in Portsmouth.!
